SPES project: A New Collaboration for Le Grand Jeu

We’re excited to unveil the LGJ-SPES Scenario. SPES stands for SUSTAINABILITY PERFORMANCES, EVIDENCE & SCENARIOS and is a project Funded by European Union’s Horizon Europe Programme that harnass a lot of brain power to re-imagine the future.

Federico have worked with a group of researchers to create a special addition to Le Grand Jeu designed as part of the SPES project. As well we are in the process of training more and more researchers to use LGJ as a research tool in focus groups and community insight. This collaboration builds on our shared commitment to exploring sustainable micro-economies and fostering creative problem-solving through play.

The SPES Scenario immerses players in challenges and opportunities inspired by real-world sustainability efforts, aligning with SPES’s mission to bridge productivity and growth with inclusiveness and environmental protection, ensuring shared prosperity and well-being for all.

What is the SPES Scenario?

The SPES Scenario introduces new dynamics that reflect the project’s focus on five pillars of sustainable human development:

1. Productivity: Encouraging efficient use of economic, human, and natural resources through innovation.
2. Equity for All: Fostering equal political, economic, social, and cultural opportunities.
3. Sustainability: Promoting climate change mitigation and adaptation, and ensuring environmental protection and restoration.
4. Participation and Empowerment: Enabling citizens and communities to be active agents of their future.
5. Human Security: Ensuring freedom from want, fear, and the ability to live with dignity.

Upcoming Events

In February and March, games featuring the SPES Scenario will be organized by partners in:

• Amsterdam, Budapest, Florence, Oslo

Additionally, independent sessions will be hosted by entities from the SPES network in: Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Kenya

Expertise and Custom Scenarios

We offer our expertise to:

• Create Custom Scenarios: Based on your inputs, we can design bespoke scenarios tailored to your community’s needs and goals.
• Master and Report Games: Facilitate gameplay and provide detailed reports on the outcomes and dynamics of your sessions.

Le Grand Jeu is open-source and free for non-commercial use. Materials, instructions, and guidance are available to support anyone interested in using this game to foster collaboration and innovation.
